The Australian Kelpie's short double coat is a built-in protection mechanism against severe weather. They shed somewhat all year round, but it's usually worse as the seasons change. To keep this under control, brush your hair at least twice or thrice weekly to remove dead hair and discourage its buildup in various areas of your house. Styling the home in this way has several benefits, including stimulating the skin and distributing natural oils evenly, which in turn promotes a healthy and beautiful coat.
Unless your Australian kelpie becomes too filthy or starts to smell bad, you probably won't need to bathe it very often. If they are washed too often, their coats may lose their natural oils and become dry. If you must wash your dog, use a shampoo made for dogs and be sure to rinse well to remove any residue.
Kelpies must have their nails trimmed regularly. To avoid pain and other problems, check their nails every two to four weeks and cut them as required. They could be excessively lengthy if you can hear their nails clicking on the floor. Be careful not to cut the nails too short, too, as it can cause them to bleed.
In order to detect redness, wax accumulation, or infection, it is essential to examine the ears regularly.
Avoid placing anything into their ear canal and instead gently clean their ears with a cotton ball and dog ear cleaner. Also, making sure your dog brushes its teeth on a regular basis can help keep its mouth healthy and free of tartar.
Be sure to keep a close check on your eyes in case you see any redness, irritation, or discharge. It is recommended to seek the advice of a veterinarian in such a situation. Another way to avoid eye strain is to keep the area around your eyes clean.
Australian Kelpies benefit from having their skin checked regularly since it allows for the early diagnosis of any problems. It is crucial to keep an eye out for any changes in coat condition, rashes, hot areas, or indications of discomfort. Taking this preventative measure helps avoid more severe issues and guarantees the dog's general health.
