Begin with Gentle Handling: To assist your turtle adjust to human contact, start by handling it softly on a daily basis. Be careful not to frighten or stress out the turtle by moving too quickly. Over time, a trusting relationship between you and your turtle may be fostered via positive handling experiences.

Turtles soon learn to identify the presence of their owners with food. Take advantage of this situation by bringing food to the enclosure while you are there. If you stick around long enough, the turtle will learn to associate you with food and might even warm up to you.

To educate a turtle to touch anything, you may use a colored stick or even your hand as a target. When the turtle touches the target, you will give it a treat. To begin, place the target close to the turtle and give it a little treat whenever it uses its snout or head to contact the target. The goal training sessions should be made more difficult and longer over time.

When teaching turtles, positive reinforcement is essential for rewarding desired behaviors. Give the turtle a treat or compliment as soon as it does something you want it to, such as coming to you when you call or engaging with a goal. Training a turtle calls for persistence and calmness under fire.
