Bearded Collies need frequent brushing to keep their long, thick hair free of mats and tangles. At least twice or thrice weekly, use a pin brush or slicker brush to remove loose hair and untangle your Bearded Collie's fur. Pay close attention to the places that tend to mat, such as behind the ears, under the armpits, and under the tail. Start brushing from the roots and work your way out.
You don't have to bathe your Bearded Collie very often; in fact, once every six to eight weeks, or as required, is usually enough. Wash your dog using a dog-formulated shampoo and conditioner to remove buildup and smooth out their coat. To avoid skin irritation, be careful to rinse the shampoo well afterward.
After a wash, pat your Bearded Collie dry with a soft cloth and then either let them air dry or use a cold, low setting on your hair dryer. If you want to keep germs and fungi at bay, you must make sure their coat, and particularly the skin below, is totally dry.
To keep the Bearded Collie looking well, regular trimming is required. To maintain cleanliness and avoid infections, trim the hair around the ears, paws, and eyes. To make grooming a little simpler, some owners prefer to shorten the coat on the underside and behind.
Bearded Collie coats may quickly get matted; if this happens, gently use your fingers or a mat splitter to remove the mats. To save your dog any pain, it's best to have a professional groomer take care of severe matting. Overgrowth of the nails, which may cause pain and trouble walking, can be prevented by regular clipping. You should cut your dog's nails using dog-specific clippers or a grinding tool if you hear them clicking on the floor.
