The Beauceron is a French breed that has been documented as far back as 1578, in Renaissance-era writings. In 1863, Pierre Megnin distinguished between two breeds of sheepdogs, the long-coated Briard (later renamed the Beauceron) and the short-coated Beauceron (later renamed the Bouvier).
As a result, the Beauceron was officially recognized and shown at the first Canine Exposition in Paris in 1863. Both Beauceron and Baird shipman dogs were accepted into the first shipman dog club,' which was founded in 1897.
The Beauceron is a French dog breed known for its size, strength, and agility. The "double dewclaw" on their hind legs is a unique feature of these dogs' well-proportioned and muscular bodies. Their short, thick coat, which is usually black and brown, gives them an impressive and confident look.
The Beauceron is distinguished from other breeds by its double-layered coat. They have a tough outer coat and a woolly undercoat that becomes longer and fluffier in the winter, especially if the dog spends the night outside. The normal coat colouring for the breed is black and tan, with the tan colour being called "rouge ecureuil" in French.
