Properly maintained fish can live 3-4 years happily, although in some cases they survive 5-7 years. Research indicates that betta can live happily and stress-free in a large space with several gallons of water.
For healthy betta maintaining water parameters is necessary. A betta prefers a temperature range between 70 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit means silently warmer, if the temperature is lower install the heater. Good water quality and maintenance of the tank lead a healthy life. We suggest that regularly change the water. If you put in a large aquarium change the 20% of water every 15 days.
Betta pallifina prefers acidic conditions around the PH value of 6.5 to 7.5. Ideally, toxin levels should be 0 such as ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. However, they can survive nitrate levels up to 40 ppm. The betta pallifina endures hardness upto 0 - 20 ppm, particularly if you put live plants in your tank. For a stable PH level the range of carbonate hardness of 80-120 ppm.
As a freshwater fish, they can catch various diseases. Even if they have weak immune systems in consequence they are easily infected by viruses or bacteria.
Fin Rot and Tail Rot: these diseases are caused by bacterial infection, the symptoms are fins look frayed, discolored, and torn. This normally occurs because of poor water conditions. For prevention regularly change the water and maintain water parameters.
White spot (Ich): Betta is covered with white spots near the head and eyesight. It’s a parasitic infection that is treated by over-the-counter medicine and increases water parameters.
Swim bladder: symptoms of this disease beta cannot swim properly. If you notice that your fish having difficulty swimming it might suffer from swim bladder. It is often caused by overfeeding or low fiber in the diet.
When you put a new betta in a tank quarantine them for at least two weeks and observe them, if any sign of illness appears, consult the expert.
