Both male and female bettas are aggressive, but the females are less intense and territorial if the space is large female bettas are also as aggressive as males in their own territory. In nature, the betta is highly aggressive because of artificial selection, although it is violent in the wild.
A male builds a bubble nest open the water surface. After betta spawn the males build bubble nests, where they protect the eggs and raise the young. After the spawn male betta repairs the bubble nest.
The biggest threat to betta is water pollution, as well as constructive development. Much of their natural living place has been demolished by human activity which is chemical and refinery plantation or industrial development.
