Bite Force

friendly bite bluetick coonhound

When compared to bigger breeds like Mastiffs or Pit Bulls, Bluetick Coonhounds are not normally noted for having extremely powerful biting force. Their biting power is believed to be between 200 and 400 pounds of pressure per square inch (PSI), which is on par with that of other medium to large-sized canines.

The biting force of a Bluetick Coonhound is average compared to that of other dog breeds, yet it is still rather powerful. Bite wounds may occur in this PSI range, although a well-trained and controlled dog should alleviate any concerns.

Training a Bluetick Coonhound puppy not to bite should begin at an early age to prevent any problems from arising.

The powerful jaws of several dog breeds, such as the Bluetick Coonhound, give them an air of authority. It is essential that the dog not be provoked and that it not be exposed to strangers until it has been fully trained. However, these dogs are noted for their amiability and tranquillity, which makes them great companions. They need little in the way of maintenance.

A Bluetick Coonhound's impressive biting power is interesting, but it shouldn't overwhelm the numerous other reasons why this breed is so revered and admired.
