About twice a year, or once every six months on average, Boykin Spaniels will go through their heat cycle. The particular rhythm of your dog's oestrous cycle can only be determined by keeping a close eye on her, therefore it's important to remember that every Boykin is an individual.
Always seek the advice and assistance of your vet if you have questions or concerns regarding the regularity of your dog's oestrous.
Every Boykin owner should have an understanding of the signs and symptoms of heat, the best ways to care for and aid their dog during this time, and the optimal times to breed or contemplate spaying.
Dogs, unlike some other animals, do not have their heat cycles controlled by environmental factors like seasons, sunshine, or temperature shifts. The first oestrous in a female Boykin usually occurs between the ages of 6 and 8 months, but may happen as early as 4 months. They may not have a consistent cycle when they are young.
It might take up to 18 months for their cycles to stabilise into something that can be reliably predicted. Approximately twice a year, or every six months, your Boykin will go into heat.
