Migration

New Zealand:

Chatham Island Pigeons, also known as Parea, are native to the Chatham Islands, a remote archipelago located around 800 kilometers east of mainland New Zealand. While these pigeons are predominantly sedentary, some individuals may undertake seasonal migrations within the Chatham Islands in search of food and suitable breeding sites.

Australia:

Despite their proximity to mainland New Zealand, Chatham Island Pigeons do not typically undertake long-distance migrations to other countries such as Australia. Their distribution is largely restricted to the Chatham Islands, where they inhabit a range of forested habitats including native forests, scrublands, and regenerating vegetation. While they may occasionally disperse to nearby islands within the Chatham archipelago, they are not known to migrate to distant locations.

Papua New Guinea:

Chatham Island Pigeons are not found in Papua New Guinea or other countries outside of New Zealand. While these pigeons share similarities with other pigeon species found in the Pacific region, they have evolved unique adaptations to the specific environmental conditions of the Chatham Islands.

Pacific Islands:

As native birds of the Chatham Islands, Chatham Island Pigeons do not migrate to other Pacific islands. Their distribution is confined to the Chatham archipelago, where they are adapted to the local climate, vegetation, and ecological dynamics. While they may disperse within the Chatham Islands in response to seasonal changes or resource availability, they do not undertake long-distance migrations across the Pacific Ocean.

Antarctica:

Chatham Island Pigeons are not found in Antarctica or any other polar regions. Their distribution is limited to temperate habitats within the Chatham Islands, where they inhabit forests, woodlands, and shrublands. While they may exhibit some seasonal movements within their island range, they do not venture to extreme environments such as Antarctica, which are not suitable for their survival.

Asia:

Chatham Island Pigeons are not known to migrate to Asia or other continents. Their distribution is restricted to the Chatham Islands, where they have evolved in isolation from mainland bird populations. While they may share some similarities with pigeon species found in Asia, they have distinct characteristics and behaviors shaped by their unique island habitat.

Europe:

Chatham Island Pigeons do not migrate to Europe or other continents outside of their native range. Their distribution is limited to the Chatham Islands, where they are endemic species. While they may disperse within the archipelago, their movements are generally localized and do not extend beyond the boundaries of the Chatham Islands ecosystem.
