The sexual maturity period for Chinese Crested Dogs typically occurs between six and nine months of age, as it does for many other dog breeds. They reach reproductive maturity at this point. Bitches, or female dogs, enter heat, sometimes called estrus, twice a year, on average. A woman's reproductive system goes through four phases known as proestrus, estrus, diestrus, and anestrus.
The female dog goes through hormonal changes and gets ready for mating during proestrus, which lasts for around 9-10 days. While the female may be experiencing vaginal bleeding and edema, she is not yet fertile. Normal menstrual bleeding decreases as proestrus advances.
Estrus is the receptive stage of the female reproductive cycle and lasts for around 9-10 days. By this time, most women have stopped bleeding entirely, and some may even be more interested in men. Intact male dogs in the area may become more interested in your female dog during this time and may even try to mate with her.
Diestrus is the next stage after estrus and lasts for around 60-90 days. During this time, a female is not likely to get pregnant since she is resting from reproduction. Reproductive hormones level out, and the body goes back to being infertile.
Last but not least, the resting period between cycles is called anestrus. During this time, a female dog's reproductive system lies dormant for the longest amount of time, often four to five months.
