Grooming mitts or soft-bristled brushes should be used to delicately clean your Chiweenie's coat once weekly, at the very least. Focus on the tangle-prone spots, including behind the ears and between the legs.
You should bathe your Chiweenie every four to six weeks, or more often if it becomes unclean or stinky. To keep the fur of your dog from being irritated, use a dog-specific hypoallergenic shampoo. Shampoo residue may be irritating to their skin, so be sure to rinse completely.
When caring for your Chiweenies, be on the lookout for any indications of ear irritation, including as redness, discharge, or an unpleasant odor. Ears should be cleaned using cotton swabs or pads and an ear cleaner designed for canines.
Trim your Chiweenie's nails regularly and keep them at a manageable length. When using dog nail clippers or a nail grinder, avoid cutting into the quick, a sensitive spot at the base of the nail that if nicked may bleed and hurt.
Chiweenies are prone to tooth problems, thus regular dental cleanings are essential. It is important to regularly brush your dog's teeth using a dental instrument and dog-formulated toothpaste. To further encourage good oral hygiene, you may also provide dental chews or toys.
Maintaining your Chiweenie's eye health requires frequent inspections for indications of discomfort, including as redness, discharge, and blinking. Use a wet towel or an eye cleaner made for dogs to gently wash the area around the eyes if required.
Appropriate grooming for work: You may want to take your Chiweenie to a professional groomer on a regular basis for grooming regardless of the kind of coat they have. Services including coat trimming, shape, and even basic hygiene may be part of a professional grooming session.
