It is recommended that families with older children wait until the youngsters are older before bringing a Chow Chow into the home. But if the dog is young and socialized with children from an early age, even infants and toddlers may be introduced to a Chow Chow. However, it is essential to follow the guideline of never leaving your Chow Chow, or any dog, alone with small children.

When asked directly whether Chow Chows are aggressive, the answer is yes. While aggressiveness is often attributed to a dog's natural temperament and attitude, it's vital to remember that there are other contributing elements.

The breed has a bad image and is often labelled as a dangerous pet. This is because there were over 238 recorded Chow Chow assaults between 1979 and 1998, with 37 of the victims being minors and 40 of the attacks being deadly.

It's crucial to be prepared for any encounter with an aggressive or possibly hostile dog. One important piece of advice is to not instantly withdraw your hand away if the dog bites.

Doing so may encourage the Chow Chow to attack even more forcefully. Instead, you should let the dog go slack until it releases go of your hand, and then refrain from playing with it for around 30 seconds.

The Chow Chow dog originated in northern China at least two thousand years ago. Young children may mistakenly assume that these medium-sized canines are friendly and playful because of their teddy bear-like look.

However, because of their shy dispositions and air of distance, this is unusual. Due to their temperament and history of violence, Chow Chows may not be the greatest canines to keep around rowdy or disobedient youngsters.
