The Dogue de Bordeaux is a huge and powerful dog breed that is well-known for its size and physique. While females tend to be a little lighter, adult males may weigh anywhere from 110 to 145 pounds. Their shoulder height ranges from 23 to 27 inches.
Easily Recognized: This breed is known for its striking and commanding look. These animals are characterized by a large, enormous head that ends in a sharp point, a short and wide snout, and a furrowed brow. A black mask around the eyes and muzzle is a common facial characteristic of Dogue de Bordeaux dogs.
The coat of this breed may be any shade of fawn from very light to very dark, and it is short and silky. Breed standards allow a small amount of white markings on the toes and chest.
Dark, medium-sized eyes that exude intellect and kindness give a Doggue de Bordeaux dog a soulful and expressive appearance. The self-coloured or dark amber eyes are usually spaced rather far apart.
The ears of this breed are tiny and droop slightly over the skull. Their texture is gentle, and you can tell an attentive dog by the little perk up in its ears.
Tail: A Dogue de Bordeaux's tail is wide at the base and narrows as it reaches the tip. Usually, it is worn loosely and droops. A slightly curved tail is OK; a docked tail is not.
The Dogue de Bordeaux has a reputation for having a steady and placid disposition. Their massive stature belies the nickname "gentle giants." They develop deep attachments to the people in their lives and are devoted and loving pets.
The breed is great as a guard dog because of its strong protective instincts. Their guardian instincts are on full display when they exhibit shyness or reluctance around unfamiliar people.
Dogs of the Dogue de Bordeaux breed tend to get along well with kids. Their amiability and calm demeanour make them great pets for households with young children. Having a strong social foundation beginning at a young age is crucial.
Even if they aren't hyperactive, Dogue de Bordeaux dogs still need to get some exercise on a regular basis. Their health will improve with regular exercise, mental stimulation, and playtime.
Dogue de Bordeaux's health concerns include hip dysplasia, cardiac difficulties, and joint problems, as are those of many bigger breeds.
