Elephant ear betta is native to Southeast Asia. betta was discovered in Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia. Mekong Delta region. They are one of the trendy aquarium fish. It is considered rare fish.
They originated from the Mekong Delta region the water is slow-moving and warm so they prefer to live in the same as their natural habitat. Even if they can tolerate hard or cold water they weaken their immune system. They do not need flowing water.
Elephant ear betta fish are aggressive and live in freshwater environments such as marshes, slow-flowing streams, rice paddies, and stagnant ponds. All betta live in the same environment and their natural habitat is the same, the elephant ear betta is not an exception.
a temperature range between 75°F to 82°F and a PH value between 6.0 to 8.0. They also prefer to hide spots in their habitat as well as resting spaces. They prefer to rest in areas adorned with shaded spots and aquatic plants.
Elephant ear betta survive outside the water because they inhale oxygen from the air which the help of a labyrinth organ. A special organ allows them to gulp oxygen from the air and inhale it. So, they can live at a low level of oxygen.
So when you choose the habitat for elephant ear betta, make sure they are the same as their natural habitat; put the artificial leaves, plants, etc. include hiding spots like caves, but do not add more decoration. If it’s possible, provide giant betta natural habitat, because they feel secure in their own space. Human activity destroys their natural habitat and the growth of aquarium culture also lost their natural habitat.
water pollution and natural habitat destruction are the two biggest threats to wild bettas. Habitat loss is the process that means natural habitat can not support the native species the place is polluted and affected by pollution as a result it can not provide the proper environment to live healthy species.
