The unique dog breed known as the Pointer was first mentioned in English records around the year 1650. It was developed via deliberate breeding of single dog breeds, including the Italian Pointer with the Foxhound,' Bloodhound, Greyhound, Newfoundland, Setter,' and Bulldog. The term Pointer comes from the way the dog would have froze in a pointing place when it spots game, drawing the tending of the huntsman to where the fauna is.
