The medium-length double coat of an English Springer Spaniel has to be brushed often to keep it from matting and tangling. Try to brush their coat many times weekly, if not every day. To remove loose hair, dirt, and debris, use a slicker brush or a pin brush. Tangles tend to grow in unexpected places, so be very careful in such areas: behind the ears, under the legs, and around the neck.
You should give your Springer a bath whenever it's required, which is often every six to eight weeks or whenever their coat becomes soiled. The coat's natural oils may be stripped away by washing it too much, which can cause dry skin. To maintain a clean and supple coat, use a mild dog shampoo and conditioner. To avoid skin irritation, be sure to rinse away all of the shampoo.
The large, floppy ears of an English Springer Spaniel may collect water and provide a fertile environment for the growth of germs and diseases. Keep an eye on their ears and clean them often using an ear cleaner that has been recommended by their vet. Be careful not to scratch or rub the area too vigorously, and notice any changes in colour, smell, or pain.
To avoid pain, discomfort, and other issues with your pet's paws, it is crucial to cut their nails regularly.
Your dog needs a trim if you notice a clicking sound whenever he walks on hard surfaces. Be careful not to sever the quick, which contains blood vessels, and use nail clippers made specifically for dogs.
The general well-being of your dog depends on his dental hygiene. If you clean your dog's teeth on a regular basis using a canine-specific toothbrush and toothpaste, you can keep plaque, gum disease, and foul breath at bay. Additionally helpful are dental chews and toys designed to encourage good dental hygiene.
Grooming your English Springer Spaniel by a professional once in a while will keep its coat looking healthy and beautiful. Tasks like shaping the coat, removing superfluous hair, and checking for skin concerns may be handled by professional groomers.
Although it has nothing to do with grooming, sometimes anal gland expression may be necessary for certain Springer Spaniels. Proper treatment should be discussed with your veterinarian if you see scooting or excessive licking around the hindquarters.
