Properly maintained galaxy koi can live 2-3 years happily, although in some cases they survive 3-5 years. Research indicates that betta can live happily and stress-free in a large space with several gallons of water.
When you see them closely; there are some signs of healthy betta and a red flag of betta. The healthy betta has a vibrant color, active and alert, regularly eats, and reacts aggressively to outside movement, unframed fin. Some of the red flags such as dull color and loss of appetite, fungus or spot on the body or mouth, listlessness, weight loss, bloating, cloudy eyes, unnaturally frayed fin, and labored respirations.
Some are common diseases in galaxy koi betta:
Fin Rot: it is an infection caused by bacteria and its symptom is fin tearing. The symptoms begin with a spot on the edges of the betta fin The consequence is losing the fin. The reasons behind the bacterial infection are poor water quality, low temperature which is below 78, and the build-up of toxic ammonia compounds. It commonly affects fish that have a weak immune system.
Dropsy: it is a bacterial infection. The symptoms are swelling of the belly area. They are resolved by water maintenance and over-the-counter medicines. The cures are also available for this disease.
Ich: the symptoms show a white spot on the body. It is caused by external parasites that irritate the skin. The symptom is itching on the skin, because of itching they scratch the body with an object placed in the tank, hence its name “ich.” The constant itching and scratches lead to a white spot all over the body. This also causes stress and, in extreme conditions death. It is also caused by poor water quality.
Pop eye: popeye is a condition where both betta eyes bulge out. It is an underlying condition caused by bacterial infection and poor water conditions.
Swim bladder: symptoms of this disease betta can't swim properly. If you notice that your fish is having difficulty swimming it might suffer from a swim bladder. It is often caused by overfeeding or low fiber in the diet.
Bloating: This is caused by overfeeding. It is typically signaled by a swollen abandon. It is caused when betta is overly fed and has a bacterial infection.
Use almond leaves to prevent bacterial growth, relieve stress, and constipation, and adjust pH value. Almond leaves are similar to natural living places. Fungal infection is common which is prevented by methylene blue. It immediately removes fungus.
Aquarium salt is a necessary first aid treatment for your betta, when they are having constipation. Salt baths work as a medicine and help to quick recovery and heal the wound faster. For treating bacterial infections melafix is used.
