Serving Food

culinary adventures for your galaxy koi betta fish

Since they are mainly carnivores, betta should eat a wide range of prey, such as birds, fish, and other suitable sources of protein. For betta, it's important to provide them a balanced diet that caters to their unique nutritional requirements at each stage of life.

You can offer them foods like flakes, granules, and pellets, and also include frozen and live food such as artemia and blood worms. Don’t overfeed them. Overfeeding leads to obesity and a swim bladder. Properly supply a vitamin-rich diet which increases the immunity system.

A high-quality pellet, enriched with protein is considered as a base meal, with a healthy treat. Which can be either live or frozen. Occasionally you can serve them brine shrimp and bloodworms.

Like other carnivores they have a short digestive system; a basic thing of carnivores' dieting process is they have difficulty processing carbohydrates such as corn and wheat; which are generally shown in many fish. A betta diet includes nutrition-rich animal protein as well as increasing the fiber range in food.

If betta is suffering from constipation and bloating allow them to fast for 2-3 days. After fasting, offer them a lightweight food that is high in fiber such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and mosquito larvae, plant-based food is also a good option; offer them peeled or boiled peas for easy digestion.

You can skip food for days to a quick recovery. Because of their weak immune system, betta can undergo “fast”, once a week. A betta doesn't feel hungry and without food, she can survive two weeks.

Make enrichment a part of your feeding schedule. To do this, you may use mechanisms that make the betta work for their food, much as they would in the wild, or you can move the food to various spots in the tank.
