Betta is naturally carnivorous, they prefer to eat live food like small invertebrates and insects that float the surface of the water. Like other carnivores they have a short digestive system; a basic thing of carnivores' dieting process is they have difficulty processing carbohydrates such as corn and wheat; which are generally shown in many fish. A betta diet includes nutrition-rich animal protein.
Healthy diets maintain their natural color. Half-sun betta fish are picky eaters but also have good appetites. Once you prefer a palette; they become overweight and constipated. So make sure that you do not overfeed them, and break the food into small pieces so you can avoid choking hazards.
You can offer them a variety of food such as:
High-quality pellets: feed them a high quality pellet which are staple part of their diet. They are specially made for betta to supply essential nutrition, vitamins, and minerals. Only serve them which consume in 2-3 minutes.
Live of frozen food: for a change in diet treat them with live or frozen food such as daphnia, brine shrimp bloodworms. They are not only beneficial to health but also increase hunting skills.
Veggies: they are carnivores. So vegetable intake must be in their diet. You can offer them boiled peeled peas and zucchini slices; for easy digestion.
Feeding: an adult half-sun betta twice a day. Do not overfeed it.
Fasting: fasting once a week helps to clear the digestion system which provides overall health benefits.
Vitamin and supplements: offer betta a high vitamin-rich diet, which boosts their immune system and maintains their natural appearance.
