Halfmoon betta is native to Southeast Asia, including the northern Malay Peninsula, Cambodia, and Thailand. Betta was acquired as a pet 150 years ago in Thailand. This is a highly territorial and aggressive fish mostly discovered in shallow water rice paddies.
After recognizing their popularity the king of Siam decided to place them in an aquarium and tax them. In 1840 the king gave betta to Danish physician, Dr. Theodore Cantor for study. The doctor studied them, and after some research, they identified them as macrocodes pugnax. When they discovered that there already was a fish of that name, they renamed it as betta splendens which means beautiful warrior. Halfmoon betta was first imported into Germany and France in the 1890s, in 1910 Mr. Frank Locke, brought the first betta to the USA for an aquarium and they became extremely popular.
Because of their appearance betta is one of the most popular aquarium fish. Betta has a total of 70+ species, but most people are aware of only Siamese fighting fish, which is also called betta splendens. The half-moon betta is a very high-grade coloration fish of the long-tail variety fish. The half-moon betta has an elegant and classy appealing personality. The betta caudal fins resemble a half-moon moon which looks beautiful when fully extended. Their extended finnage is delicate so need proper care and keep them safe in extreme situations.
In a betta world, halfmoon betta is a show stopper because of their caudal fin which is graceful and looks like the half moon. The beauty of the half-moon betta is mesmerizing, with its vibrant color and stunning finnage which is the best addition to the aquarium. A half-moon betta is a fine variety of betta. The male betta fin extends and rotates 180 degrees like a moon shape, which is incredible looking. This is one of the best specimens displayed in symmetrical half-moon shapes and can feature an array of hues. The female betta has a smaller size and fins than the male betta.
