A thick double coat, consisting of a longer, rougher outer coat and a shorter, softer undercoat, is characteristic of huskies. They are able to stay warm and protected from the weather thanks to their distinctive coat. Their coat's health and attractiveness depend on regular maintenance.

Huskies are known to be moderate shedders throughout the year, but they undergo a seasonal shedding process commonly referred to as "blowing their coat."
