Grooming

In terms of brushing, keshoffs have a thick double coat that sheds little all year round and much more when the shedding season rolls around. To keep their coat healthy, remove stray hair, and prevent mats, brushing them regularly is necessary.

Aim to brush your Kееshond's coat at lеast two to thrее timеs per week, and increase the frequency during shedding seasons to daily brushing. Usе a slickеr brush or a grooming tool specifically designed for doublе-coatеd breeds to effectively remove loose hair and prevent tanglеs.

The average keeshond needs a wash every two to three months, although more frequent bathing may be necessary if the dog becomes very filthy or is highly active. After washing your dog with a mild shampoo, be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove any soap suds

Do not bathe them too often since this might dry up their coat by removing the natural oils. Their coat stays clean and debris-free with regular brushing in between bathing.

To keep your Keeshond's nails at the right length, it's vital to cut them regularly. In addition to affecting their stride, long nails may be painful.

Be careful not to cut into the quick (the sensitive area of the nail) when you trim the nails, which should be done every four to six weeks or as required. Seek the advice of a professional groomer or your veterinarian if you are unsure how to cut your nails.

Ear Cleaning: It is essential to regularly clean your keshoff's ears since they are prone to ear infections. Make sure to periodically inspect their ears for any indications of redness, discharge, or smell.

Gently wipe the outside of the ear using a cotton swab or gentle cloth dipped in a veterinarian-approved ear cleaning solution. To keep yourself safe, don't put anything too far into your ear canal.

Dental Hygiene: While not directly connected to personal hygiene, taking care of one's teeth is just as vital. Preventing tartar development, gum disease, and bad breath in your Keeshond may be as simple as brushing their teeth regularly using a dog-specific toothbrush and toothpaste.

Another way to help keep teeth and gums healthy is to provide dental chews or toys that are designed to encourage good oral hygiene.
