The body uses water for a wide variety of functions, including digestion, circulation, temperature regulation, and organ function. It helps keep vital biological functions like joint lubrication, nutrition absorption, and waste removal running smoothly. Dehydration may cause severe discomfort and even death in dogs.
Just like any other dog, a Norwеgian Elkhound needs access to water at all times. A clean water source in an appropriate container should be readily available to the dog. It is important to routinely inspect the water container to make sure it is clean and devoid of any impurities.
To be well hydrated, Norwegian Elkhounds may need more water during warmer weather or times of increased physical activity. Make sure they have access to clean water more often and keep an eye on how much they drink during these times. In addition, it's a good idea to pack water to provide your dog hydration breaks while going for walks or doing strenuous activities.
It's important to be aware that some Norwegian Elkhounds could accidentally spill water or play in their water bowls. Your dog will always have access to an adequate amount of water if you check and refill the water bowl often.
The indicators of dehydration in Norwegian Elkhounds should be closely monitored by their owners, in addition to making sure they have access to clean and fresh water. Some of these symptoms may manifest as a lack of skin elasticity, heavy panting, dry or sticky gums, lethargy, loss of appetite, sunken eyes, or both. Make sure your dog gets enough water and care if you observe any of these symptoms, and take them to the clinic immediately.
