The palkat betta originated from Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Wild bettas prefer to live in freshwater which is surrounded by rice paddies, marshes, and slow-moving streams or stagnant ponds.
They are mostly discovered in south asian countries so they prefer warm environments around 80 F. If the environment is cold they become seek. Some symptoms are shown such as lifelessness, decreased appetites, and being easily affected by the infection. They prefer to eat animal-based protein and green plant-based food, as well as easy-to-find live food such as larvae and crustaceans.
If their current habitant has not provided sufficient oxygen they evolved to gulp oxygen from the air. Because they have labyrinth organs, which act like human lungs.
When you keep palkat betta as a pet, make sure you set the tank the same as their natural habitat; put the artificial leaves, plants, etc. including hiding spots like caves, but do not add more decoration. If it’s possible, provide palkat betta natural habitat, because they feel secure in their own space. Human activity destroys their natural habitat and the growth of aquarium culture also lost their natural habitat.
The two biggest threats to the wild bettas are loss of natural habitat and water pollution. Habitat loss is the process that means natural habitat can not support the native species the place is polluted and affected by pollution as a result it can not provide the proper environment to live healthy species.
The ICUN list of the elephant ear betta is precious fish. Most of their natural habitat is polluted because of human activity.
