One of the rarest and most attractive betta fish, which is not easily found in a pet store is palkat betta fish, it is also called short fin betta or biting fish. The scientific name is betta splendens native from the southeast Asia Mekong Delta region, and mostly discovered near Thailand, or Vietnam.
The betta comes in different colors and fins. The other popular variety of bettas is snakehead and spoon-head palkat betta. Appearance-wise wise sneak head betta is long and narrow and has small fins. And a long snale-like body perfect for fighting. A spoonhead betta has a longer anal and ventral fin. Their curvy mouth is perfect for attack.
The palkat betta is water fish so they prefer to live in warm environments with a temperature range between 72- 82 F (22 to 28 C). They like acidic water, and the pH value is between 6.0 to 7.5. the hardness should be 2- 10dH. They can grow up to 2-3 inches. And the average life of bettas is 3-5 years.
Palkat betta is a short bomb, they are specifically bred for fighting, so they are highly aggressive, so you can not put two bettas together in the same tank. They will attack each other and fight until one of them dies.
Palkat betta breathes directly oxygen from the air, thanks to its labyrinth organ. Because of their ability, betta can live sometimes outside the water. So, they can survive sometimes out of the water.
Palkat betta are carnivores, so serve them different food like animal protein and leaves. You can serve them a high-quality commercial pellet which is loaded with animal protein will be a basic Meal. You can offer frozen dried food or live food. You can offer them foods like flakes, granules, and pellets, and also include frozen and live food such as artemia and blood worms. Don’t overfeed them. Overfeeding leads to obesity and a swim bladder. Properly supply vitamin-rich diet which increases immunity system.
A betta has a weak immune system, so they easily catch the disease. Ac common diseases of the bettas are fin rot, velvet, ich, etc. With the ideal care and maintenance, you can prevent them from diseases.
The biggest threat to Betta is water pollution and industrial development. Human activity destrory their natural habitant which is chemical and refinery plantations or industrial development.
