The Ragamuffin cat breed came about inside the United States during the 1990s, building upon the foundation of the Ragdoll cat breed. The history of the Ragdoll breed began in the 1960s with Riverside, California-based breeder Ann Baker. Ann Baker's journey began with a white home longhaired cat named Josephine, who had a unique habit of going completely limp and relaxed while picked up. Ann Baker saw some thing unique in Josephine's conduct and decided to breed her with different cats, primarily Persians, Birmans, and Burmese, with the aim of creating a new breed with this distinctive characteristic.
