An interesting and endearing breed with roots in Tibet, the Shih Tzu has a long and interesting history. These tiny, long-haired canines were originally favoured for their lion-like look and were raised to be companions for Buddhist monks.
The fact that Shih Tau means lion dog in Chinese is an allusion to how like the two breeds are. The breed fleetly became beloved by the royal court in China when it arrived in the 17th century.
A toy dog breed with a long and distinguished history, the Shih Tzu personifies grace, charisma, and friendship. The ancient Chinese craftsmen who brought this breed from Tibet to China saw it as having a lion-like look, therefore the term "lion dog," which means "lion dog" in English. The silky, long coat of a Shih Tzu may be any shade of color and needs frequent brushing to keep it at its best.
Shih Tzu were gentle recognizable by their wide, round, black eyes and their lineament pushed in face, which unitedly exude an inviting and kind demeanor. Their lilliputian height was complemented by alcoholic legs that allow them to walk with grace and agility.
