The Beauceron's coat is low-maintenance; it just has to be brushed once a week and bathed every two months, at most. To avoid the buildup of filth that might cause ear infections, it is important to clean your dog's ears regularly, about once a week, using a mild, dog-friendly cleaner. Also, be sure to brush your Beauceron's teeth multiple times a week to keep their mouth healthy. Additionally, once a month, you should cut their nails to avoid uncomfortable cracking and discomfort.
The double coat that Beaucerons have requires nothing in the way of maintenance. For the majority of the year, weekly brushing with a medium bristle brush and mittens or gloves is sufficient. Grooming should be done practically every day year-round, but it becomes more important during the spring and autumn shedding seasons to remove the excess, dead hair from their coat. Their fur has to be washed sometimes so it stays clean, but frequent bathing might remove their natural oils, so moderation is key.
Regular nail clipping is another important part of caring for your Beauceron since long nails can be painful for your dog if they click on the floor. To keep their ears in good condition, regular cleanings with a cotton swab and some ear-cleaning solutions are recommended. Finally, don't forget to include regular dental care by brushing your dog's teeth using dog-formulated toothpaste.
Having a Beauceron as a pet requires a substantial time commitment each week for upkeep and grooming. Brushing once a week with a medium bristle brush while wearing gloves should be sufficient for the vast majority of the year. However, more grooming is required to control shedding properly during shedding seasons. Baths should be kept to a minimum so as not to wash away their natural oils. To maintain their health, they need to have their nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and teeth brushed regularly.
