While they fare well in milder areas, Belgian Tervuren dogs are surprisingly temperature-tolerant. During colder weather, its thick double coat acts as insulation. During warmer weather, it helps to regulate body temperature. The wide temperature range they can withstand is a result of their flexibility. Unfortunately, they are vulnerable to the harmful effects of very hot or cold weather.
Heatstroke and other heat-related disorders may affect Belgian Tervuren dogs at temperatures higher than 85°F (29°C). For their well-being, make sure they have enough fresh water, a place to shade themselves, and, if you can, a way to chill themselves, such air conditioning or fans. Preventing heat-related problems requires close monitoring of their exposure to high temperatures.
On the other side, Belgian Tervuren dogs can need extra layers of clothing when the weather drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit (4 degrees Celsius). Wearing outerwear, such as sweaters or jackets, may help with this. To make sure they are safe and warm during really cold weather, it's best not to keep them outdoors for long periods of time.
Responsible pet care includes knowing whether temperatures are too hot for Belgian Tervurens and taking steps to keep them cool, such as providing them with cool clothes or water. Belgian Tervurens may flourish in a wide range of weather conditions, and owners can help them adapt by providing a secure and pleasant home.
