Even though they are often thought of as loving water, some Belgian Tervurens really seem to be afraid of or hesitant around water. On the other hand, certain Belgian Tervurens could really like splashing about in the water. You should take your time and be kind when you first bring your Tervuren to water.
Start with a small, shallow body of water, such as a paddling pool or pond, and lure your dog closer to the water with goodies and praise. When they succeed, be sure to compliment them. If they seem anxious or fearful, be patient and use positive reinforcement to help them conquer their fears.
Before you bring a Belgian Tervuren into the water, make sure it is completely safe. If you take your dog swimming or boating, make sure they wear a life jacket and never leave them alone near water. No matter how much fun water activities are for your Tervuren, their safety must always come first.
Factors like as age, degree of exercise, and general health might affect the amount of water that a Belgian Tervuren needs to drink. The recommended daily fluid intake for an adult Belgian Tervuren is around one ounce for every pound of body weight.
The average adult dog needs around 60 ounces (or 7.5 cups) of water each day, for example, if their weight is 60 pounds. But this is only a guess, and there will be differences from person to person. In hot weather or when activity levels are high, it is particularly important to provide clean water on a regular basis.
Keep an eye out for indications of dehydration in your dog, including lethargy or a dry mouth, and make sure to monitor his water intake. Seek advice from your vet if you notice any unusual changes.
