As with any canine, Bergamascos usually experience sexual maturity between 6 and 12 months. At this stage, they may start displaying courtship actions and develop a desire to reproduce.
Responsible breeding of dogs must be conducted in well-regulated and supervised environments, taking into account the health and behaviour of the canines involved. On average, female Bergamascos experience estrus, commonly known as heat, twice annually, but this frequency may differ among dogs.
The estrous cycle's timing and length can differ, but usually, it endures for approximately two to three weeks. At this period, the female canine may exhibit more love towards her owner, become unsettled, and have a discharge that contains blood.
Male Bergamascos have the ability to engage in sexual activities throughout the entire year, although the extent of their fertility can be subject to fluctuations that stem from various factors, such as their age, overall physical condition, and past mating experiences. It's worth mentioning that male dogs can display heightened sexual attraction and perform reproductive actions, regardless of their capability to successfully fertilise a female.
