Grooming a Biewer Terrier is a time-consuming task because of the care that must be given to the breed's long, silky coat. Although Biewers don't shed heavily, their coats still need to be brushed every day to prevent matting and tangling. In addition, a trim every two to three months, depending on your desired haircut, is necessary to maintain smooth hair and appear healthy and clean.
Biewers are unique in that their delicate hair needs special care while combing to avoid breakage. First, using a spray bottle filled with water and canine conditioner, soak the coat to prepare it for brushing a Biewer.
These dogs benefit greatly from the use of a pin brush, and a 2-in-1 comb is important for detangling mats and knots. Use the comb to get rid of any tangles or mats you find, and then brush the coat section by section, working from the hair's base to its ends.
It's important to brush the dog well before bathing it if you want to do so. To avoid damaging the coat, always use dog-safe items on your Biewer. After a good lathering and rinsing, dry the dog with a towel or a hair dryer and give the coat a fast brushing to get it looking clean and sleek again.
Only the ears, the pads of the feet, and the region around the anus need to be trimmed on a Biewer Terrier. Many owners, however, opt to style their Biewers in ways that set them apart from others.
While these cuts are manageable for the do-it-yourselfer with some experience, it's best to get a pro's opinion at least once. The finest possible care for your Biewer Terrier's coat may be shown by a professional groomer, who can also provide extra grooming recommendations and display the proper haircut.
