Combtail betta are carnivores and consume daphnia, brine shrimp, zooplankton, and other small insects such as mosquitoes, cetaceans, bloodworms, etc. Like other creatures, there are two biggest there of bettas pollution and habitat destruction.

The big fish also threaten the betta because they eat the small betta. They are their predictors because after the spawning males may kill female betta, and during fertilization they eat their eggs.

Many of the species have also developed armor, spines, and toxins to deal with threats from predators. Larger reef fish like snapper, grouper, and moray eels commonly consume combtail betta threatened, they generally try to hide or swim away.
