Itchy, flaking skin

Flea infestations are a common cause of itching in cats. Fleas can cause allergic reactions, leading to itchy skin and excessive scratching. You may also notice small black specks (flea dirt) on your cat's skin.

Treating scaly skin is not just about finding out the underlying cause, but also alleviating itchiness associated with the condition to help make your cat comfortable.

Cats may have scaly skin for a number of reasons, some of which are minor, such as naturally dry skin. Scaly skin often looks like dandruff, but can also consist of larger flakes that can be seen through your cat’s fur.

Cats can develop allergies to certain foods, environmental factors (such as pollen or dust mites), or substances they come into contact with (such as certain cleaning products or fabrics). Allergies can cause itching, redness, and flaking of the skin.
